Filming problems

As there was a wedding in the location we filmed the first draft in, we decided to film on the Sunday. The main character was unavailable there was no time to film so in turn we missed the deadline. I approached my teacher after school on the Monday, had a meeting on the same Wednesday and we discussed factors which contribute to a group mark, the main problem being reliability and pro activeness. I did suggest creating a new idea so the group wouldn’t have to rely on the same girl. My teacher advised against this so we spoke and resolved our problems. We were then told to film over the weekend and catch up.

First Draft of our filming short term plan

Filming plan and improvements for second draft.

  • Establish ‘father’ character better, develop stronger costumes so the audience can relate and understand that Ochuko is the father easily
  • Re-film phone/love/failed scene. Don’t make it so obvious work more with connotations and props.
  • Longer mirror shots of the main character
  • Zoom in, into the face shown in the reflection then cut to a full face shot looking in the camera acting as the mirror. Making the editing seamless and easier on the eyes.
  • Have longer shots of the main character alone.
  • Change credits, show throughout the opening sequence
  • Change editing techniques, instead of a white flash, film a thinking shot, then go into a flash back.

Draft 1 - Reflections

this is the full finished version of my groups first draft. titled reflections linking in with the narrative of the film. Beginning filming was a bit problematic, as someone was late so we wasted a lot of time at the beginning of the day. This then meant that filming couldn't be done on one day as thought and had to run on into two days. To correct this, we should agree to be very strict with our timings and all make sure we stick to responsibilities and understand that other members are relying on each other. Aside from that, filming went very well, we stuck to the story board and worked together. We fulfilled the roles that we picked at the start of the year and took turns to film. Editing wise I put together the main body of work on a tuesday, after school. It took about 2 hours then the rest of the group came the next day and we finished the few remaining bits like adding music. I have learned that I do not like waiting around for people and would rather start early that start late e.g. 1/2pm in addition to this i dont mind working alone to get the work done and meet the deadlines in good time, although it is better if we work as a group.

ASSESSMENT!
GROUP LEVEL: 2
GROUP MARK: 27/28
INDIVIDUAL EFFORT: 3
INDIVIDUAL MARK: 27/28

WHAT WENT WELL?

  • variety of shots
  • team cohesiveness on the day
TARGETS/IMPROVEMENTS?
  • no zoom
  • no time for voiceover, so not all the music matched
  • make the dad character clear
  • make the father drink something more harsh instead of beer
  • shaky camera
  • teddy bear/phone= too obvious/cheesy
  • short
  • change credits, the current ones seem like the end of a film
  • change/adapt music
  • longer shots of her face
  • show footage of an U/D grade essay instead of 'failed'
  • remove white transitions, just shoot a thought shot
